Caught shooting his brother, Wyatt was sent to his "chair" with a, "Wyatt, we do NOT kill people!!!!!!" (please note this was probably the 1oth occurrence that day or possible that hour)
Sobbing, the sob that comes deep from his heart he looks at me through teary eyes and a quivering lip to say, "But Mommy, David does! Him kill Goliath!"
Couldn't argue. However, Wade is not a giant in the Philistine army.
Since this witnessed "killing" a couple of weeks ago I have surrendered. Now "David" is one of our favorite outside games. (come on folks, at least I moved the killing outdoors!) It typically goes some thing like this.....
"Mom, you be Goliath, k... Me be David." And with that, one little stone goes in the sling (a stick) and the slings goes round and round and round and round and round and round..................and one little stone (pretend) goes up in the air the the Giant (Mom) comes tumbling down! And then we play it again only this time Wade is David and Wyatt is Goliath and then the next time Mom is Goliath and Wade is David, and on and on and on.
(I would like to add: after learning of the boys' love for the story of David and Goliath, a dear friend and spiritual mentor of ours, gave Wyatt and Wade a detailed story book about David. It is a great book and read everyday. However, it brings to light some details (like David cutting Goliath's head off) that our Bible story books omit. This portion of the story has been deemed unlawful in our game!)
Some kids play Duck-Duck-Goose or Ring-Around-the Rosie. We play David!
Have you any idea how glad it makes my heart to be a mother to these two boys?
Oh yes, we played "David & Goliath" yesterday. It's the cutest thing! :)
